May 29, 1907: "Eugene, Or., May 29.---The Sunset Lumber company, which was incorporated in Portland three months ago and which has maintained an office in this city since, has purchased the Hyland sawmill property on the Mohawk, 20 miles northeast of Eugene, from T. R. Yerger of Los Angeles, who purchased the plant from the Hyland brothers last August. The plant consists of a mill with a capacity of 40,000 feet of lumber every ten hours, 2,300 acres of timber land, two miles of tramway, docks at the railroad for loading lumber on cars, a store with a $4,000 stock of goods and complete logging outfits. The incorporators of the new company are H. C. Mahon, a Eugene timber and mining broker; E. O. Samuels of South Bend, Wash., and I. W. Lane of Texas. Mr. Mahon is president and Mr. Lane secretary. Mr. Samuels will be superintendent of the mill." (The Oregon Daily Journal)
June 18, 1908: "H. C. Mahon, president and manager of the Sunset Lumber Company, which owns the sawmill on the Mohawk, formerly the Hyland mill, and a great deal of timber l;and in that vicinity and in other parts of Lane county, returned today from Corvallis , where he closed a deal for the purchase by his company of the Corvallis Lumber Company's mill at that city. The deal was consummated yesterday, and the property turned over to the new owners this morning." (Eugene Weekly Guard)
January 6, 1910: "More Cases Against Sunset Lumber Company---Attorney L. M. Travis filed two suits against the Sunset Lumber company yesterday, the plaintiffs being C. E. Eaton and J. E. Cunningham respectively. The suits consist of a number of assigned labor claims of comparatively small amounts." (Morning Register)
