CAWRSE LUMBER MILL
Remote
February 13, 1958: "The John Cawrse Lumber Mill on Rock Creek, near Remote, which has been shut down for the past three months, started operations again Monday morning with both day and night shifts in operation. Prior to the shut down, due to the sag in the lumber market, this mill had operated continually for nine years. According to a telephone conservation, the Herald was informed that there is enough cold-deck logs on hand to keep the mill operating until the middle of June.
Should the lumber market become more profitable in the meantime, the company will start logging operations to continue the mill in continuous operation. The company employs a crew of 50 men." (Myrtle Point Herald)
