June 14, 1901: "W. A. Hoover has converted his shingle mill near town into a saw mill and is now sawing lumber. He will soon put in a planer and will turn out first class article of cedar lumber. A lumber yard has been started by Mr. Hoover back of Dayoe & Sons' store." (Myrtle Point Enterprise)

September 6, 1901: "Frank Lane, who is employed at the Hoover shingle mill near this place, met with a serious accident Thursday. While working near the saw his left hand was caught against the saw and badly cut, all of his fingers except his fore finger being severed from his hand. Dr. Leep dressed the wound."
