August 22, 1930: “The Sawyer sawmill on the Calapooia river above Brownsville, which has been idle for some time, commenced cutting again yesterday. The mill has received orders for the Calapooia spur railroad now building southeasterly from Sweet Home and will furnish the ties for this extension.

February 21, 1931: “Lee Bante, 18, of Crawfordsville, was injured Tuesday while peeling logs to erect the Sawyer mill near Holley. The axe he had in his hands slipped and cut a gash in his knee. He was taken to Brownsville for treatment.” (The New Era)
