October 21, 1903: "Roseburg was given a general shakeup last night at about 8 o'clock by the accidental explosion of fifty-five pounds of giant powder, stored in a barn belonging to the Roseburg Lumber Company. Windows within a radius of 300 yards were shattered, and of the four horses stabled in the barn, one was killed outright. What caused the powder to explode is not known.
Immediately after the explosion big flames began to leap forth from the barn, and in a short time the building with its contents was in ashes." (Statesman Journal)

July 19, 1950: "Roy Acy Archer, 49, Winston, was killed in a logging truck accident Wednesday. He was employed in logging operations by Roseburg Lumber company in the upper Olalla region, where the accident occurred about 30 miles southwest of here." (Herald and News)
