September 12, 1926: "Sale of the A. B. Loud sawmill at Higdon station, about 50 miles from Eugene on the Coos bay line, with consequent taking over of 100,000,000 feet of timber in that vicinity by the Keith Lumber company, was announced yesterday by Mr. Loud.
The transaction, it was said, involved the exchange of approximately $25,000 worth of property. J. C. Keith, of the Keith Brothers' concern, represented the purchasing lumber company.
The sawmill is capable of a turnout of 25,000 feet daily. Due to the extensive timber holdings near the plant, operation over a period of many years is expected. Mr. Loud has been operating until now and the Keith Lumber company will take possession and begin operations under the new management early next week.
Keith Brothers operate two sawmills in the valley, one at Wilemina and another at Silverton, headquarters of the company. This will be the third mill.
Mr. Loud stated that he had no plans for the immediate future. He is well known in Eugene.
The Keith Lumber company has the reputation of successful sawmill operations." (Morning Register)
