This mill will be used in cutting lumber to plank the county road from Siletz to Tidewater, a distance of about ten miles. This work is being done by the Warren Spruce Company.. The planking laid will be four inches thick, a foot wide and ten feet in length, and will be laid upon stringers size 4 by 12. They will operate auto trucks on this road and haul out spruce." (Lincoln County Leader)
March 29, 1918: "M. S. Collins, owner of the Siletz mill was in the city Saturday morning enroute to Portland. Mr. Collins informed us that the mill is now operating full time on Government contracts. The Government requires a large quantity of planking for planking the roads in order to get out spruce, and Mr. Collins says that they are seriously considering the advisability of putting on two eight hour shifts. Should this be done the mill and yard will be lighted with gas lights." (Lincoln County Leader)
November 21, 1919: "Lee Wade has leased the Siletz sawmill and is now busy getting same in shape to operate. The mill will be thoroughly overhauled and put in first class shape. Sawing will commence about December 1st. Jesse Daniels will have charge of the logging operations which will be conducted in Mr. Wade's timber about a mile northwest of the Agency. The lumber will be hauled to the Fischer-Storey railroad at the latter's logging camp, and placed aboard the cars there. The mill will cut yellow fir, spruce, hemlock, maple and alder lumber/" (Lincoln County Leader)
