October 23, 1952: "Robert Earl Montagne, 34, of Deadwood was crushed to death Wednesday when the lumber carrier he was driving struck a hole in the Siuslaw highway, plunged through a guard rail and down a 15-foot bank. Montagne, state police report, was thrown from the carrier by the initial impact but the rolling vehicle landed on top of him.
Montagne was employed by the Erskine Lumber company to carry lumber from the Co-op mill near Swisshome to the planer mill in Swisshome. He had delivered a load and was nearing the Co-op mill when the accident occurred." (The World)

June 23, 1955: "John Chase, 55, of Swisshome suffered serious burns about the face and hands early Wednesday afternoon in a flare from an electrical control panel at the Erskine Lumber Co. mill at Tide.
Chase, who works at the mill as a planer feederman, was standing close to the panel when a switch flew up and was burned when the heavy current arced.
He was taken immediately to the nearby Mapleton Clinic and treated for second-degree burns on the face, fingers and hands.

November 14, 1961: "A 20-year-old Mapleton man was in good condition at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene Tuesday after undergoing surgery for internal injuries suffered in an accident at the Erskine Lumber Co. mill, in Swisshome, about 1:30 p.m. Monday.
Donald Kilfoy, who had worked at the mill for a year, was struck by a board while he was pulling lumber on the green chain. He was taken to Western Lane Hospital in Florence and then transferred to Sacred Heart Monday evening." (Register-Guard)
