October 4, 1917: "Surveyors have been running levels in and around Scio during the past few days looking to build a lumber flume. The Tribune understands parties are negotiating for the old Balentyne mill, located southeast of Scio, from which a lumber flume has been built part way to Scio. The prospective new owners purpose to extend this flume to Scio and to the railroad, if sufficient fall can be obtained." (The Scio Tribune and Santiam News)
December 19, 1918: "The logging (donkey) engine that the Scio Logging & Lumber Co. moved from West Scio to the mill last week is said to be about the largest donkey ever brought to this locality." (The Scio Tribune and Santiam News)
February 18, 1919: "The Scio Logging and Lumber Co. is busy putting in repair five or six miles of flume from the old mill near Scio. The flume is being extended to the road and may be run on into Scio. The old mill went bankrupt a few years ago and has remained idle since that time.
