CLARKE & BAKER
Millwood
December 17, 1885: “During the late rains Clarke and Baker, of Hubbard Creek, run four hundred thousand feet of saw logs down the creek to their mill pond. They propose keeping up their reputation of furnishing the best lumber in the country.” (The Drain Echo)
January 8, 1886: "CLARKE & BAKER. A writing up of business men and business interests of Douglas county would seem incomplete in the absence of a notice of the wide awake and active citizens whose firm name heads the article, even though their principle business is that of running a sawmill. They may correctly be classed among the leading spirits of any enterprise of a public nature. They established their mill in this county in 1879 and have since been consistently and successfully engaged in the lumber and sawmill business. Of Mr. Clarke, personally, we can say that he is an 'Ohio man,' yet withal genial and wholesouled. As a firm Messrs Clarke and Baker are popular and in the lead." (Roseburg Review)
January 22, 1886: "Business will be better in a few days, as Clarke & Baker will commence running their mill on full time one week from to-day." (Roseburg Review)
