March 4, 1876: "J. J. Comstock has put up a new saw mill four miles north of his present location, to which he will move in the course of a month." (The Eugene City Guard)
May 13, 1876: "Mr. J. J. Comstock has the frame up and covered for his new saw mill on Pass Creek, four miles above where his old mill stands. When completed it will be one among the best mills in the country, and will contain all the lately improved machinery for dressing and preparing lumber in all shapes for use. The first lumber sawed when it gets in running order will be for the new depot hotel in Albany." (The Eugene City Guard)
