April 19, 1917: “The mill of the G. H. P. Lumber company, at Hillsboro, was destroyed by fire at an early hour Sunday morning and the firemen were kept busy saving the lumber piled in the yard. The mill had a capacity of 20,000 feet per day and employed 25 men. It is believed the fire was of incendiary origin. The mill will be rebuilt at once.” (The Forest Grove Express)
April 19, 1917: "The sawmill plant of the G. H. P. Lumber company at Hillsboro was destroyed by fire early Monday morning and incendiarism is strongly suspected. When the fire was first discovered at 6:30 a.m., the mill was on fire in half a dozen places, while less than 15 minutes before a local citizen who passed the place saw no evidence of fire at any point. The property loss is over $25,000 and there was no insurance. Twenty-five men are thrown out of employment by the fire. The owners have not yet decided as to their future action and there is a possibility that they will not rebuild, although they have considerable contracts on hand. The fire department succeeded in keeping the flames from the greater part of the lumber in the adjoining yards." (Cloverdale Courier)
