HARDWOODS, INC.
Reedsport
October 26, 1962: "New Reedsport Mill to Utilize Hardwoods"
"Typical of such operations is that of Hardwoods, Inc., a Eugene firm with a sawmill operation now getting under way at Reedsport. The Reedsport sawmill which, it is hoped, will eventually have a hardwood chipper operation, is under the direction of Delbert Palmer who works with a contagious enthusiasm for the role of the hardwood industry in the stable and balanced economy of any lumber area.
The mill stands on the site of the former landmark conventional sawmill, the Bridge mill, near the Port of Umpqua dock site.
The Hardwoods, Inc. plant will accept alder, maple, and some myrtle at the present time.
The mill at Reedsport has a daily capacity of 12,000 to 15,000 board feet, and employs a crew of five men and the resident manager, as a direct payroll." (The World)
