June 26, 1909: "A very disastrous fire occurred at the McKinney saw mill last night according to telephone advices this morning. The shingle mill, planing mill, all the dry lumber and a large amount of green lumber was destroyed entailing a loss estimated at about $5,000. The origin of the fire is not known.
E. E. Purrington has charge of this mill and it was one of the best equipped in this section. The loss is heavy for Mr. Purrington and will be felt by many others indirectly as lumber is very much in demand. We understand there was no insurance." (The Times-Herald)
