Bear Creek, Wallowa
August 7, 1909: “The Bear Creek Lumber company is the name of the new concern that has bought 2500 acres of timber along Bear creek, three miles above Wallowa from Martin Coleman, Henry Spence and others. A mill of 40,000 feet daily capacity will be put in and this with the Nibley-Mimnaugh mill will help make Wallowa one of the leading lumber towns of eastern Oregon.
The incorporators are W. C. Pursell of Boise, G. E. Romney and M. R. Taylor of Salt Lake, and Giles and Burke Plass, experienced saw mill men of Elgin. The latter will have charge of the mill.
The deal was made by Couch & McDonald and is one of the most important to the development of the lumber interests of Wallowa county that has yet been consummated. It is a forerunner of others. It will add hundreds of men to the payrolls and tens of thousands of dollars to the value of property.” (The News Record)

August 18, 1909: “Article of incorporation of the Bear Creek Lumber company have been filed in the county clerk's office. The capital stock is $60,000, divided into 120 shares of $500 each. The incorporators are Giles and J. B. Plass of Elgin, C. W. Pursell of Boise and J. J. Shaw, residence not given.” (The News Record)
November 17, 1909: “Plass Bros., a well known sawmill firm of Elgin, have shipped their machinery to this city, where they will consolidate with the Bear Creek Lumber company, a new corporation recently formed. The Plass mill will be installed on the new company's holdings to cut the timber for a new mill which will be installed next season. The company will put in a new band saw with a capacity of about 40,000 feet per day.” (The News Record)
