MURPHY-GARDNER LUMBER COMPANY
Marion County - Stayton
October 3, 1918: "A new Lumber Company has been organized in Stayton to be known as the Murphy-Gardner Lumber Co. The place of operation will be on the Andrew Ferry place, almost one mile and a half west of Stayton. The capacity of the plant will be 10,000 feet a day.
The work of building the mill and the placing of the machinery is under way now and the proprietors expect to be running in about two weeks.
Government work will be the principal output for the present, as we are informed that the new mill has orders to keep it in operation for some time.
The haul will be short, being only about two and one half miles to West Stayton. The members of the new company are A. D. Murphy, Grant Murphy, and O. E. Gardner. All of the above named men are old old hands at the lumber business, having been connected with that kind of work for a number of years. We wish the new firm success." (The Stayton Mail)

August 18, 1923: "Stayton.----The Murphy-Gardner Lumber company is moving its sawmill to the Dave Patorff place, on Drift creek, near Silver Creek Falls. The company expects to erect a permanent mill at this place, as there is available about 25,000,000 feet of timber. The railroad shipping point will be Shaw, and the output of the mill will be hauled on trucks. This company has just finished cutting all the available timber on the J. T.
