The blaze was discovered about 8:40 p.m. Ed Whitaker, night watchman, said he heard a loud pop and that shortly afterward the building was in flames. Only the loading platform, ramps and carrier were saved.

July 1, 1947: "The Long-Bell Lumber Company today had its second holding in the Lane County, Oregon, timberlands.
The company announced purchase of the Austa Lumber Company mill and forest holdings, 36 miles west of Eugene, near Linslaw. The mill has a capacity of 60,000 board feet per eight-hour shift. It employes 60 persons." (The News-Review)
