December 1, 1916: “Work has started on the $25,000 Applegate Lumber Co. sawmill at Medford.” (The Brownsville Times)
June 4, 1917: "Medford Tribune: S. S. Bullis, president of the Applegate Lumber Company, has come down from the Sterling mine to devote his time during the coming months chiefly to directing the mill operations of the company in this city. The pipe for the water main to the mill is on the way and will be laid as soon as it arrives. Thereafter the sawmill will blow the whistle for a continuous run all summer." (Ashland Tidings)
August 25, 1917: "The Applegate Lumber Co.'s mill at Medford is running steadily now, but the supply of logs is not equal to the capacity of the mill." (Jacksonville Post)
May 6, 1918: "H. A. Thierolf arrived home from Portland last week where he was purchasing machinery and equipment for use at the logging camp that will be established by the Big Pines Lumber company in the Butte Falls district to furnish logs for the Applegate Lumber company.---Medford Tribune."
