June 9, 1959: "Purchase of the properties of Mt. Bette Lumber Co. at Dillard was announced Monday by William F. Forrest, president of Pacific Plywood Co.
Forrest said the name of the sawmill will be changed to Umpqua Lumber Co. Dale Williamson of Winston will be the manager. Williamson was formerly with U. S. Plywood and Martin Bros. Container and Timber Products Co.
Mt. Bette Lumber Co. has been in operation for about 10 years. The mill was built bt Stanford Buell and Lou Andrus. Later a corporation of five, including Buell as president and manager, took over the plant. The mill normally employed about 30 men and produced about 50,000 board feet of lumber per shift.
Forrest said no immediate changes are planned for the mill, which will continue production on a one shift basis." (The News-Review)
