November 18, 1909: "Cruzan Bros. will close down their mill for this fall, but will fill their large pond with logs for the spring run." (Eugene Weekly Guard)
June 24, 1913: "Some heavy teams are now engaged in hauling ties and lumber from the Cruzan Bros.' mill to Lowell. Owing to the continued rains the roads are bad in places for heavy teaming." (The Eugene Guard)
September 13, 1913: "Cruzan Bros.' sawmill on Lost creek, two miles above Dexter, was destroyed by fire at an early hour this morning, with a loss of about $5000.
It is not known how the fire started. The flames were discovered by some of the mill hands who were sleeping nearby, at 1 o'clock this morning. They ran to the scene but the fire had gained such headway that it was impossible to stop it. The men then directed their attention to saving the lumber in the yards and were successful, very little of it burning.
The plant had a capacity of about 15,000 feet of lumber a day and had been operating steadily at a profit for some time past. There was insurance on the plant of $4,500, which will nearly cover the loss. It is possible that the mill will be rebuilt." (The Eugene Guard)

June 1, 1918: "The Cruzan mill is not running this week as Frank Cruzan has the measles." (Morning Register)
November 1, 1918: "Fire completely destroyed the sawmill of Frank Cruzan, near Dexter, 18 miles east of Eugene, early Tuesday morning, entailing a loss of $4000. A small quantity of bridge timbers, which the mill was cutting for the government, was also burned. The whole plant was in flames when the fire was discovered. The cause of the fire is not known. Mr. Cruzan carried no insurance on the mill." (Morning Oregonian)
February 8, 1919: "F. Hills, of Dexter, announced yesterday that he will erect a sawmill of 20,000 feet capacity on the site of the Cruzan mill that was destroyed by fire last November. He is now in Eugene arranging to buy his machinery.
The Cruzan mill burned to the ground from some unknown cause and there was no insurance on the plant, the loss falling heavily upon the owner.
Mr. Hills says there is plenty of timber at his disposal in the vicinity of the mill site. The mill will be located within a mile of the Dexter store." (Morning Register)
