July 27, 1942: "The Siuslaw Products company is building a new sawmill at Mapleton and plans to put in a spur tract which will cross a county road." (Eugene Register-Guard)
August 30, 1945: "A county bridge on Knowles creek across the Siuslaw river from Mapleton and on Route F was badly damaged a few days ago by a blast used on the county road and will have to be rebuilt, according to County Commissioner Allen P. Wheeler, who inspected the damage this week. The Siuslaw Forest products company, operating a large sawmill at Mapleton, has built a detour road around this bridge." (Eugene Register-Guard)
January 21, 1954: "Poor market conditions will force the closure of the Siuslaw Forest Products Company's sawmill at Mapleton, 50 miles west of here, Manager Frank McPherson announced Wednesday.
The mill employes 115 persons, but some of them will be hired for a small mill the company plans to open after shutting down the big plant Jan. 29. The firm plans to keep its plywood plant operating." (Capital Journal)
