LOGAN LUMBER COMPANY
Josephine County - Cave Junction
February 8, 1952: "George J. Logan, well-known Illinois Valley lumberman, died at Josephine General hospital about 1:50 p. m. yesterday (Thursday) from injuries received when he was struck by a falling tree two hours earlier.
Logan, owner and operator of the Logan Lumber company mill in Cave Junction was falling a tree with Delbert Hill south of town. As the tree began to fall, George warned Hill to get back because it appeared that the tree would strike a dead snag and carry it down also. Hill later reported that the tree hit the snag as anticipated, but that the heavy upper part of the snag broke off and fell directly on Logan.
The accident occurred about 11:45 a. m., and the injured man was rushed by the Valley Ambulance service to the hospital, where Dr. C. N. Versteeg has arrived and alerted the staff to the emergency. Despite all that could be done, however, he passed away soon after arrival." (Illinois Valley News)
