A. W. BRYAN'S SAWMILL
Clover Flat
November 9, 1911: "Fire destroyed the sawmill, shingle mill and planing mill of A. W. Bryan in Clover Flat early Sunday morning. Outside of a few hundred feet of lumber everything was inflammable in that vicinity, including a wagon belonging to Andy Hotchkiss of Valley Falls, which together with a load of lumber went up in smoke. The origin of the fire is unknown, though a smouldering spark is supposed to have been the cause when it was fanned into a flame by the gentle night breeze. There was no insurance on the outfit and it comes hard on both the owner and the large number of people that want lumber for building purposes in that part of the county." (Lake County Examiner)
