February 13, 1914: "George C. Cannon, a sawmill man from Yoncalla, Ore., was an arrival on the stage Monday. He is looking over conditions, and will undoubtedly decide to move his mill here within the next two months. The land opening and the near certainty of the railroads building into the Upper Deschutes the coming summer, Mr. Cannon thinks is sufficient to cause a large immigration into this section of the country, and he is determined to be in on the ground floor.---La Pine Inter-Mountain." February 20, 1914: "George C. Cannon, the Yoncalla sawmill man, left for home thoroughly satisfied with conditions at Crescent and in this vicinity. He stated he would have his mill moved here by the first week in April, and in full running order by May 1st.---La Pine Inter-Mountain." (The Evening Herald)
March 20, 1914: "Geo. C. Cannon has written from Yoncalla, Ore., that he will have his sawmill at Drain ready for shipment within another week or ten day to Bend. It now seems certain that the mill will be on the site in Crescent ready for installing by April 15.---La Pine Inter-Mountain." (The Evening Herald)
April 15, 1914: “George C. Cannon, the sawmill owner, together with his wife and four children and his brother, reached here from Yoncalla, Ore., last Thursday. The equipment arrived at Bend a week ago, and Mr. Cannon left for that point Saturday morning to direct the loading of the same onto freight wagons. It is expected that the teams will arrive in Crescent today and that the mill will be set up and in running order by the first of the month.” (The Klamath Falls Northwestern)
September 28, 1917: "The Cannon sawmill formerly operating at Crescent, will be moved to Bend within the next 30 days. Elmer Morrill will operate it and the output has been contracted for by W.R. Wilkinson. The mill will have a daily capacity of 15,000 feet." (St. Helens Mist)
