August 14, 1896: "Ed. Lafave is hauling lumber from Fletcher's sawmill and using it on his home ranch. Mr. Lafave will probably construct a large barn this fall." (The Athena Press)
February 4, 1898: "W. H. Fletcher was in town Tuesday. He reports plenty of snow at his sawmill east of town." (The Athena Press)
April 29, 1898: "W. H. Fletcher is in town from his sawmill in the mountains. He has 27 men at camp ready to begin work Monday. Fletcher has recently moved his large plant to a site about two miles southeast of where the mill was formerly located. The mill is now located in a splendid belt of timber, and the lumber output this year will exceed by thousands of feet that of any previous year. Mr. Fletcher will begin operations this year with contracts that now amount to $10,000." (The Athena Press)
May 27, 1898: "W. H. Fletcher, the energetic sawmill man of Linkton mountain, visited Weston Monday. Mr. Fletcher's big mill is now located two and a quarter miles from its former site, in a fine lot of timber. He has 35 men employed now and is cutting about 25,000 feet of lumber daily. He wants many teams to haul lumber to Athena, Milton and Walla Walla, and will pay cash for the work." (The Athena Press)
July 22, 1898: "W. H. Fletcher was in town yesterday from his mountain sawmill. He now has 40 men employed and the mill is running night and dfay to fill numerous orders." (The Athena Press)
February 20, 1903: "Weston Leader: W. H. Fletcher and his accountant, J. C. Oldham, were in town Wednesday from the Fletcher Co.'s sawmill on Weston mountain. They report five foot of snow at the mill, making travel difficult. The road to Weston has been kept open by the mill forces, but the Linkton mountain road is filled with snow drifts and wholly impassable." (The Athena Press)
August 29, 1905: "The Fletcher Co.'s sawmill is having a busy run, and there is now nearly a million feet of nice, dry lumber in the yard. The addition of an edger to the plant has made much improvement in the mill's product. The fruit box factory is now in constant operation, and many boxes are being hauled to the packing centers." December 21, 1905: "The largest sawmill plant in Umatilla county, 12 miles east of Weston, was recently taken over by the Farmer's bank of Weston, the Fletcher company, which had become involved with the bank, retiring. W. H. Fletcher, manager of the company, has been in the sawmill business for 16 years on Weston mountain. Included with the property are 1,000 acres of fine timber, which will be cut into lumber."
