July 9, 1930: "A fire, which started when a flue blew out at the Horton Lumber company, at Horton, Ore., near Junction City, at 4 p. m. today, resulted in $75,000 damage.
The blaze spread rapidly after flames from the open flue put fire to the fuel bin that it was impossible to stop it.
The fire destroyed mill, planer and lumber yards while about 300 men, forming a fire fighting crew, managed to keep them from spreading to the houses and other building in the community.
The mill, which had recently been rebuilt from a fire which destroyed it last fall, had a capacity of 50,000 feet per day and was partially covered by insurance." (The Klamath News)
