October 17, 1959: "The Kinzua Corp. is negotiating to buy the Heppner Pine Mills Inc. here. Officials of both firms said the deal should be completed this weekend.
The announcement was made by Paul Koenig, manager of Heppner Pine.
Kinzua now operates mills at Kinzua, Ore., and has extensive timber holdings in Wheeler and Morrow Counties.
After the purchase by Kinzua, the mill operation here will be continued as before, said Kinzua resident manager Maurice Brown." (Statesman Journal)

November 8, 1959: "Luther Schoolcraft of Heppner, died in a hospital here of injuries suffered when he was struck by a 15-foot chunk that fell from a burning tree near here Wednesday.
